Oscar is preparing for a change
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will follow the example of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which changed the application rules for the Golden Globe Awards. The leadership of the Film Academy announced a number of innovations that await the participants and viewers of the Oscar - 2021.The organizers of the ceremony could not ignore the situation with the coronavirus pandemic. Most cinemas are quarantined, so the Academy will make it easier to apply for an Oscar. Previously, films were supposed to receive multiple screenings in Los Angeles auditoriums. Today it became known that this rule is temporarily canceled. The Academy will begin to accept for consideration the paintings that came out straight online. Owners of streaming platforms and cable channels should not flatter themselves: filmmakers will have to prove that their work was intended for the big screen and has lost its film distribution solely because of COVID-19. The Academy will also combine the Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing categories. The decision has been brewing for a long time: many viewers have never distinguished these nominations. Moreover, some of them were outraged that sound engineers were declared in two categories at once, and the same stuntmen still do not have representation at the Oscars.  Another change will affect the Best International Feature Film category. If earlier the final five nominees were selected by a special Oscar committee, now all representatives of the film organization can participate in the voting. In addition, the Academy will tighten the selection procedure for films in the Best Music category. From now on, paintings-candidates for the award must consist of at least 60% of the original compositions. Another innovation will affect the "Oscar - 2022". Starting next year, the Academy will stop using DVD screeners. Previously, many members of the organization received films on disks. Now a special online service has been created for them, where they can view pictures of interest and decide on voting in a particular category.
