New American Hero

Image The production company Blumhouse has already mastered horror as a genre, and now it boasts an impressive list of low-budget, but incredibly successful horror films that earned at the box office many times more than what was spent on shooting them. According to the portal Deadline, the next goal for Blumhouse is to master superheroics.

According to the source, Jason Bloom's studio has invited Oscar winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) to adapt his own comic strip The American Way: Those Above And Those Below for large screens.

In the 60s, Jason Fisher gained incredible ability while working for the US government. He used his power to defend the American people in the guise of a superhero called the New American. However, in reality, everything was a hoax: people like Fischer were exploited by the government as one of the propaganda methods, diverting people's attention from really important problems. And now, years later, the former members of the secret unit each live their own lives: someone went into politics, someone became a terrorist. The film takes place in 1972, when Fisher tries to help a small community in Baltimore, whose members nevertheless question the integrity of their savior.

The source writes that the creators of the picture intend to use the superhero theme to highlight the social problems of modern society, including racism. It is noteworthy that the adaptation of Ridley's comic book is not the only project of this genre under development at Blumhouse. The company is also rebooting Spawn, but whether the movie will ever make it to the big screens is unclear.
