A spark will ignite a flame

Image Having achieved tremendous success in the field of creating low-budget horror films, the famous Hollywood studio Blumhouse decided to turn its eyes to the world of television. According to Variety, Jason Bloom's company is starting a miniseries based on James McBride's bestselling The Good Lord Bird.

The book by a popular American journalist and musician was published in 2013. The novel received rave reviews in the press and earned McBride the US National Book Award. The protagonist of the story is the young Kansas slave Henry Shackleford, who was lucky enough to meet the abolitionist John Brown.

Brown entered the annals of American history as an implacable fighter against slavery. In 1859, he decided to attack the army arsenal at Harpers Ferry in order to supply dark-skinned slaves with weapons and supplies. John fell into the hands of the authorities and was sentenced to death. Although the attack on Harpers Ferry was unsuccessful, some modern historians believe it was the main catalyst for the American Civil War.

Several years ago, they tried to shoot a full-length film based on The Bird of God. Liv Schreiber claimed the role of Brown, and they wanted to entrust the image of Shackleford to Jaden Smith. According to new reports from Hollywood, Blumhouse management has already found a performer for the role of John Brown in the TV version of the novel. It will be four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, who once admitted that "God's Birdie" is one of his six favorite literary works. Previously, the actor has already collaborated with Jason Bloom on the creation of the western "In the Valley of Violence" and the horror films "Doomsday" and "Sinister".

Mark Richard (Hell on Wheels, Fear the Walking Dead) will adapt the book by James McBride.
