The 16th Visual Effects Society Awards took place today at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. For the seventh time in his career, the event was hosted by actor and screenwriter Patton Oswalt. The rapidly growing organization unites in its ranks more than 3800 special effects and computer graphics artists from 35 countries of the world, who annually celebrate the outstanding achievements of their colleagues. According to VES experts, the most vivid and high-quality visual effects last year were presented to viewers by the creators of the War of the Planet of the Apes blockbuster, Coco's Secret cartoon and Game of Thrones TV series. As part of today's ceremony, the traditional presentation of special awards for contributions to the development of the industry took place. Honorary prizes were given to the director of "Iron Man" and "The Jungle Book" Jon Favreau, as well as the winner of five "Oscars" Joe Letteri, who had a hand in creating special effects in the films "King Kong", "Avatar", "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn", The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
