In the war of proposals, streaming service Netflix has triumphed and acquired the rights to remake Irwin Allen's cult sci-fi series Lost in Space, which is run by Legendary TV. This is reported by the publication Deadline.

The new series "Lost in Space" is described as an epic but down-to-earth sci-fi saga, centered on a young family of earthlings-explorers, lost in an alien universe and trying to cope with a common problem despite insurmountable differences. Matt Sazama and Burke Sharpless ("Dracula") will executive produce with Kevin Barnes, as well as Neil Marshall and Mark Helwig. Marshall ("Game of Thrones") is expected to direct the series.

In the original series, released in 1965, the action took place three decades into the future – in 1997. The main characters of the series, the Robinson family, made a space journey that lasted five and a half years to another planet for its colonization. Enemy agent Dr. Zachary Smith sabotaged the mission by altering the ship's course. The title credits for the series were written by John Williams, author of the future immortal music for the Star Wars franchise.

Lost in Space was aired on CBS and ran for three seasons. Lost In Space: The Complete Adventures was released in September this year to celebrate the series' 50th anniversary, with all 83 episodes of the show restored.
