Paramount will shorten release dates for digital movies

The Paramount Pictures movie studio decided on a very daring experiment - to shorten the period between the theatrical premiere of the movie and the release of its licensed version.

According to Variety, the company has entered into an agreement with the largest cinema chains in North America AMC Theaters and Cineplex Entertainment to release digital copies of the two projects just 17 days after the end of their release. These are the horror movies Paranormal Activity 5: Ghosts and Boy Scouts vs. Zombies.

It is alleged that the terms of the deal were also approved by another major theater chain, most likely Regal or Cinemark, which will issue an official press release on this matter a little later. Note that traditionally licensed versions of movies are released on digital media approximately 90 days after the end of their distribution. In recent years, studios have worked with movie theater chains to work out a new scheme, but have not succeeded, as theater owners feared that viewers would prefer to wait for the release on disc or in video services to watch the movies at home.

The partners may have been interested in the Paramount Pictures offer, as they were offered a percentage of digital distribution of movies in the first three months after their release.
