HBO ordered production of Sharp Objects drama
HBO has commissioned the production of the eight-part drama Sharp Objects, which was acquired by Entertainment One and Blumhouse in February this year. The streaming service Netflix was HBO's rival for the right to be the home of the series. This is reported by the publication Deadline. The main role in the series – movie adaptation of the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn – was approved by Amy Adams (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Marty Noxon ("Unreal") serves as showrunner and co-writer with Flynn ("Gone Girl"). Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club) will direct all eight episodes, as he did on the upcoming HBO series Big Bad Lies. starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley. The main character of the 2006 novel, journalist Camilla Pricker (Adams), after a short stay in a psychiatric clinic, must go with an editorial assignment to her hometown to cover the murder of two girls 9-12 years old. Trying to piece together the pieces of a psychological puzzle from her own past, Camilla associates the girls with herself and takes the case too close to her heart.
