Shailene Woodley to star with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman
Divergent star Shailene Woodley has been offered a limited-episode TV series based on the novel "Big Little Lies" by Australian writer Lian Moriarty. According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing its sources, the contract will be signed in the coming days. HBO refrains from commenting. HBO won the bidding war against streaming service Netflix and acquired the rights to the series in May this year. The drama is executive produced and written by multiple Emmy Award-winning David E. Kelly (The Practice). Lies Never Matter focuses on three preschool mothers. Their seemingly prosperous lives are crumbling in connection with a murder that happened at a charity evening. Woodley will play Jane, a single mother who is one of the three main characters. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will play the other two characters. The rights to the novel, published in July 2014, were acquired by Blossom Films and Pacific Standard, owned by Kidman and Witherspoon, respectively. First, a full-length movie adaptation of the # 1 bestseller according to the New York Times was planned, and then it was decided to shoot the drama in television format. Kidman and Witherspoon share the executive producing roles. Woodley is best known for her appearance on ABC Family's The Secret Life of an American Teenager.
