Luc Besson's studio EuropaCorp starts production of a movie dedicated to the disaster of the USA submarine Kursk. Dane Thomas Winterberg has been appointed director of the movie, which will be based on the work of Robert Moore "Time to Die", reports the publication The Hollywood Reporter.

The script of the movie will be prepared by Robert Rodat, who has such well-known movie projects as "Saving Private Ryan", "The Patriot" and others. Whether the creators of the movie will consult with the USA Ministry of Defense has not yet been specified.

Recall that the nuclear submarine K-141 "Kursk" suffered an accident in August 2000 in the Barents Sea during an exercise. All 118 crew members were killed. According to the official report of the government commission, the catastrophe occurred after the explosion in the torpedo tube number four of the torpedo "Kit" # 65-76, which occurred as a result of a fuel leak. The resulting fire led to the detonation of ammunition and the destruction of the bow compartments of the submarine.

The rescue operations that were carried out by the Northern Fleet from 13 to 20 August were unsuccessful. After that, the Norwegian ship "Seaway Eagle" was allowed to the scene of the accident, the divers of which were able to open the hull of the "Kursk" and began to raise the bodies of the dead sailors to the surface.

Terms of work on the project have not yet been specified.
