The best Easter eggs and secrets of The Last of Us Part 2

Image

Impressive detailing of the environment is one of the main and definite advantages of "The Last of Us. Part 2 ". And it's not so much about the quality of textures, but about the saturation of the game world with unique objects, which is why almost every run-down store, cafe or even a dilapidated room you meet can be remembered for unique details. An additional plus from the obsessive approach of the developers when filling the decorations is a huge number of Easter eggs and secrets in The Last of Us Part 2, which were left by the developers. In this post, we'll share some of the best we've found.

1. Savage Starlight

The first Easter eggs can be found already in Ellie's room, with which the game begins. In the middle of the room, near the desktop, there are several posters at once, among which I would like to note the poster of the fantastic movie Savage Starlight. This poster, like a dozen other thematic images, was noticed by attentive players in the original The Last of Us.

2. Toy robot

Next to the poster on the shelf, it is easy to see another Easter egg - a toy robot, like a drop of water resembling a transformer. Fans of the first part will be able to easily recognize the toy - it was she who gave Ellie to Sam before he turned into an infected. Apparently, after the tragic events, Ellie took a toy with her in memory of her deceased friend.

3. Gustavo Santaolaglia

The two-time Academy Award winner and BAFTA Best Music Score winner is familiar to most gamers for the unique and atmospheric soundtrack for the first game. In the second part, he returned to the role of the main composer, but in addition to that he appeared as one of the characters. Gustavo can be found at the very beginning on one of the streets of Jackson - he is exactly that smiling musician, playing leisurely tunes on the banjo, and it is difficult to miss him, even with a strong desire.

4. Playstation 3 and Naughty Dog Games

For fans of Naughty Dog creativity, the developers have left many secrets in The Last of Us Part II, and the first of them can be found on the first joint outing of Dina and Ellie. In one of the dilapidated houses you will be able to find a Playstation 3 and three discs with games - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. All games are developed by Naughty Dog.

5. Hinting pornography

When Ellie gets into Eugene's lair, we have an excellent opportunity to examine objects in the room, which is almost a reference bachelor den. for example, there are two pornographic tapes: Dong of the Wolf and Smash Brandi's Cooch. The first cassette is a porn parody of the Dawn of the Wolf movie, which was mentioned by Joel in the first game, the second cassette is, oddly enough, a porn parody on Crash Bandicoot, another Naughty Dog game.

6. Dr. Uckmann

For fun or for practical purposes (who knows what games we'll see in the future from Naughty Dog), the developers decided to come up with a whole superhero universe in "The Last of Us. Part 2." There are three factions in the universe: good, neutral and evil, in which several dozen unique characters are members. And among all the variety, I would like to note the card with the hero "Doctor Uckmann", which refers to the director of game development and vice president of the development studio Neil Druckmann. Dr. Uckmann, by the way, belongs to the faction of evil characters, with which some of the dissatisfied gamers probably completely agree.

7. Nathan Drake's Ring

If you suddenly got bored of Easter eggs for the Uncharted series, then don't worry, there are many more surprises waiting for you. For example, in one of the vault cells in the bank, you can find a ring with the quote "Sic Parvis Magna" engraved on the outer shell, or "Great begins with small", if translated into USA. This is the ring that Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake carried with him.

8. Alice in Wonderland

Speaking of unique interiors in the game. In one of the inconspicuous corners of Seattle, you can get inside the store, where a whole section is dedicated to children's fairy tales and on one of the walls there is a picture drawn based on "Alice in Wonderland". On the gaming forum, users have already put forward theories that a reference to the work of Lewis Carroll has additional meaning and is an allusion to the plot of the game, where Ellie, like Alice, falls into a rabbit hole and gradually goes crazy after the tragic events in Jackson.

9. Jak X: Combat Racing

How can one confirm another secret in The Last of Us Part II - few people honor their heritage as much as Naughty Dog. On the third day in Seattle, Ellie discovers a slot machine with the racing game Jak X: Combat Racing installed on it. Unfortunately, the slot machine will not be able to play the cult arcade game from Naughty Dog, but for those who want to touch the classics there is always an opportunity to download the re-release for Playstation 4.

10. The Turning

At the same location, you can find another slot machine, only it does not refer to a real-life game, but to a fighting game invented specifically for The Last of Us universe. The Turning slot machine has appeared in the series twice - first in the first game when we find it at the entrance to Bill's town and the second time in Left Behind, where one of the most memorable moments of the expansion was associated with it.

11. Secret combination

Methods of selecting combinations for the safes scattered in abundance throughout the game may well remind of projects in the immersive sim genre. And even more, the developers decided to pay tribute to the cult games and as a combination for one safe chose the following order of numbers - 0451, which may seem familiar to experienced gamers. It was these 4 digits that were at one time the combination lock from the door of Looking Glass Studios, which transferred the code to the System Shock dilogy and the Thief series. In addition, the 0451 combination can be found in the Deus Ex, Dishonored and Prey series.

12. Ancestral Orb

Another Easter egg for Jak and Daxter, inquisitive players will be able to find in Chinatown - the relic "Ancestral Orb". We do not recommend skipping it for trophy hunters, because for finding a relic, a bronze achievement is activated. Also note that Ancestral Orb was featured in games other than Jak and Daxter, such as the Uncharted series.

13. Playstation Vita

When the Playstation Vita era ended in the real world a few years ago, things are different in the post-apocalyptic universe of The Last of Us Part II - even 24 years after the disaster, Vita remains almost the most popular game console. She can be found in working order twice per game. The first time in the hospital with the girl playing Hotline Mayami and the second time a little later with the guy playing Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.

14. Pallets of nostalgia

As we know, before the beginning of the events in The Last of Us Part II, Ellie finally learned to swim, which means that the days when Joel had to search for pallets and use them to melt his ward across reservoirs are in the past. However, players who remember the first part well can catch a slight feeling of nostalgia from the pallet, which Ellie may find in the first flashback. If you swim up to it and press the action button, a funny dialogue will start between Ellie and Joel, so when you play the game for the first time or again, we recommend not to swim past the Easter egg.

15. Dungeons and Dragons Warhammer 40K

Nothing human is alien to the inhabitants of post-apocalyptic Seattle, including board games. The best proof of this is the unfinished game of Naughty Dog's version of Dungeons and Dragons. The funniest thing is that the characters are Space Marines that look like an exact copy of the Primaris Space Marines from Warhammer 40,000.

16. City

In one of the first scenes with Abby, we see in her hands the novel by David Benioff "City of Thieves" or simply "City" in USA translation. A little Easter egg in The Last of Us Part 2 that pays tribute to the book that became, according to co-director of the first The Last of Us, Bruce Straley, one of the main sources of inspiration for the development of the first game. The name of one of the heroes of Part 2 - Leo also refers to this novel, and specifically to the protagonist of the book.

17. Velvet rabbit

In the Seattle bookstore, you can find another real-life book, but this time for children - "Velvet Rabbit" by the writer Margery Williams. However, despite its status as a "children's" book, the book is dark enough and corresponds to the spirit of The Last of Us. According to the plot of the work, the boy is strongly attached to his toy velvet rabbit, but with scarlet fever the boy is taken to the sea, the room is disinfected, and the parents decide to burn all the toys.
