Along with the release of Half-Life: Alyx, VR headset owners got not only one of the best games in virtual reality, but also another opportunity to stroll through the painfully familiar, almost native streets of City-17. As before, "The Best City Remaining" hides many secrets and references that, like the icing on the cake, will be a reward for players for carefully exploring the locations. And if, due to the lack of a VR helmet, you cannot find them on your own, then in this material we have collected the most interesting Easter and Half-Life: Alyx secrets. Special thanks to VG247 for pointing out most of the secrets.
Little Dog Drawing
Half-Life 2 fans will probably remember that, according to Alix, the Dog was not always a giant colossus, on the contrary - in the beginning it was a small robot, slightly larger than the average shepherd dog. It turns out that Valve did not forget about this detail, suggesting in Alyx to look at the drawing of the little Dog. You can find it in Alix's room near the window with colored markers.
In the same room, you can find another curious easter egg - a snark from an alien beetle locked in a bank, which were used as living bombs in the first Half-Life. Fortunately, the home projectile doesn't explode, looks pretty cute, and can even be fed from a nearby can for a good deed achievement.
Another Half-Life: Alyx secret can be found in the main character's room - this time on the globe, next to the home snark. At first glance, there is nothing special on it until you screw the globe to the United States, which is marked with black marks. Obviously, this detail refers to the events at the Balck Mesa research complex, which contributed to the fact that all the civilized territories of North America turned into ruins.
The Return of Chomsky the Dwarf
Famous for Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Chomsky the Dwarf is back! As before, this is not just a fun beer bottle opener, but in theory your best friend who needs to be carried through the whole game to get the next achievement. You can find it almost only after starting the passage of Half-Life: Alyx - in Russell's room.
Having found the dwarf Chomsky, you should not leave the room in which we meet Russell. There is another Easter egg hidden here, referring to another Valve game - Team Fortress 2. A long search will not be required, because the red Scout figurine with a giant head will be a real feat to miss. By the way, a little later in the game you can find another Scout figure, but in blue, which refers to the two opposite teams of players in Team Fortress 2.
Message from Lazlo
Having noticed the figurine, do not rush to leave the room, you will find another, but much less obvious secret. A note with the code "pw: lazl0" can be seen next to the gravity gloves. There are at least two interpretations of the Easter egg - either Russell, whose name is marked as "Lazlo" on some game files, or the "smartest man of his generation" who was also called Lazlo, who was mentioned in Half-Life 2.
Dr. Kleiner's book
Our old friend Dr. Kleiner is not only a brilliant scientist and researcher in the field of teleportation, but also a writer. His book, the translation of which literally sounds like "From here to in less than a second," can be found in Russell's room. The book apparently talks about Kleiner's experiments with teleportation and can also be found in the scientist's laboratory in Half-Life 2.
Dr. Brin on the cover of Wired
And yet another Half-Life: Alyx easter egg in Russell's laboratory. On the carpet of the room, you can see a magazine with a pretentious drawing by Dr. Wallace Brin on the cover. The design of the magazine is in many ways reminiscent of the real-life edition of Wired, and the inscription, which sounds in the translation, "How the right person in the right place can save us all" refers to the opening phrase of G-Man from Half-Life 2 “The right person in the wrong place can change the world ".
Newspapers and World History
Repeatedly around the world of the game, you can find newspapers from which, with high-resolution textures, you can draw the history of the game world. For example, one of the newspapers will tell you more about Wallace Brin's rise from scientist to politician, as well as tell about the devastating "portal" storms raging throughout the Earth.
Portal Turret Graffiti
Finally, it's time to get out of Russell's lair. The player will find the next easter egg in the location where the first detachment in the game is released at him with a combine. A bit of research and here it is - a graffiti with a touching turret from the Portal dilogy.
Visit the Coast
A little further in the subway tunnels, an attentive player can find posters with the words "Visit the Coast" and a painted church standing on the edge of a cliff. Fans of the series will immediately know what's what - the poster refers to the Lost Coast level showcasing the HDR beauty of Half-Life 2.
Continuing to tell about the secrets of Half-Life: Alyx, let us note the Easter egg with the legendary password 0451. Experienced gamers are probably familiar with this combination of numbers, because this password is used to open the first safe in many games of the immersive sim genre. For example, in Bioshock, Dishonored, Deus Ex. In Alyx, the password has no practical use, but if desired, the Easter egg can be found at the North Star Hotel.
Poisoned Combine Water
Remember the atmosphere of total paranoia that Half-Life 2 meets you? As the residents of City-17 warned Gordon not to drink water, because the harvesters put something there. And the phrases alternating with crying “I don't remember how I got here”? Perhaps the townspeople talked about the Mountain Peaks water, the mention of which with enviable regularity in the vastness of City-17 in Alyx.
Delivery from Bridges
Finally, let's note the secret of Half-Life: Alyx, referring to last year's hit Death Stranding from Hideo Kojima. As we can see, the Bridges company does not sit idly by and even transports goods to City 17.
