How to clean Windows from junk and speed up the OS

Regardless of how actively the PC user is using their device, after a few months, its performance begins to decline.

This is due to information that clogs system resources - temporary program files, new entries in the registry, clogged startup. Fortunately, even a person who does not really understand anything about computers can carry out a few simple manipulations that will allow you to clean Windows and achieve the return of its original speed.

Cleaning the system from garbage and speeding up its work

Step # 1. Getting rid of unnecessary programs at startup

If a user has a lot of software running simultaneously with Windows in automatic mode, this not only leads to slow startup, but also degrades performance for the entire period of operation (processes remain running, consume RAM and processor resources with all the consequences).

To remove unnecessary from startup is quite simple - open the proprietary msconfig utility (you can find it through the Start menu by typing the query of the same name into the search bar), which is a standard system tool, look for the item responsible for startup there and uncheck the boxes next to unnecessary processes.

Alternatively, you can manually go into the settings of each of the applications and disable the autorun function, but this will take much longer.

Step # 2. Cleaning up accumulated system junk

It's better not to do anything here exactly in manual mode - spend a huge amount of time. It is better to install special system cleaning software such as CCleaner and its analogues. Such programs allow in one click to initiate a scan of the hard disk for temporary files, bits of incorrectly removed programs and other junk, after which the user can delete everything (or view the entire list by performing selective cleaning).

Unfortunately, such programs do not always show 100% efficiency - some information will have to be deleted manually. To do this, first go to Computer - Organize - Folder and Search Options, in the drop-down menu, check the box next to the item responsible for displaying hidden directories. All. Now all that remains is to view the directories previously hidden in the root directory of the system drive and folders “Users” and “My Documents”, where gigabytes of garbage are often stored.

But be careful not to delete anything important, as application settings files are often written there as well.

Step # 3. Cleaning the system registry

Theregeditcommand will allow you to open the registry editor and make the appropriate edits to it, but you need to do it wisely - it stores important information that is responsible not only for the health of applications, but also for the functioning of the entire system.

If you don’t want to break it, it’s better not to go there on your own, but use cleaning programs (CCleaner will do a great job of this task).

Special software will scan the registry for errors and obsolete keys, and then offer to fix them or delete them. All variables of any importance for Windows performance will be ignored, so the procedure is completely safe.

Conclusion

As you can see, there is nothing particularly difficult in maintaining the performance of a Windows PC or laptop on board. Performing the cleaning every couple of months, you will save yourself for many years from having to do a complete reinstallation, re-download all the software, and transfer important information.

And if you also properly optimize the system by disabling unused services, and in general, you can achieve impressive performance.
