Royole presented a flexible smartphone with working functionality at the major international exhibition of consumer electronics CES. FlexPai has a screen that can be folded in half. The small company bypassed Samsung, which demonstrated only a prototype of such a device last fall.
The main feature of FlexPai is undoubtedly its flexible 7.8-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1440 and a fairly stable battery that can withstand many operations to transform a device from a tablet to a smartphone. When unfolded, the device works as a standard tablet, and when folded, it switches to telephone mode. The manufacturer claims that the display of the model can withstand two hundred thousand folds.
In addition to being the first working model with a foldable screen, the FlexPai smartphone is also unique in that it is based on the Snapdragon 8150 processor, which has not yet been officially announced by the manufacturer. The presented flexible smartphone is offered in assemblies with 6 and 8 GB of RAM and internal storage of 128 and 256 GB.
The mobile operating platform is the recently released Android 9.0 Pie, redesigned for a special folding display. FlexPai is equipped with a dual main camera with 16 and 20 MP modules. The camera is supplemented with flash, autofocus and optical stabilization. The smartphone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Beidou technologies. The battery has a capacity of 3800 mAh, the device supports fast charging technology.
Demonstrated at CES, a smartphone with a flexible display was previously presented by manufacturers at the end of last year, but at that time the device was not prepared for entering the market for a number of reasons. The current version of the device is a model that has already gone on sale.
