At the annual international exhibition CES 2019 in Las Vegas, many interesting developments in gadgets and electronic products have already been shown. A special place among them is occupied by promising products, such as devices with a flexible screen. Let's review one of them.

First fully flexible

This fully flexible Royole FlexPai smartphone was tested by journalists during its presentation. They appreciated the innovative qualities of the device, but noticed that the developers were in a hurry with the release. This is evidenced by the quality of the finish of its case, which some thought was rude. Nevertheless, the product with its appearance opens a new page in the development of gadgets. Not without reason it is believed that the future belongs to devices of this kind. True, this technology is still expensive, which affects the final price of the product. Its cost in China is $ 1,300.

Either very wealthy people or those who adhere to the ideas of innovation at any cost can afford a smartphone of this value. But even for that kind of money, potential buyers will have to wait at least 30 days for its delivery.

Exterior and equipment

Many experts agree that Royole FlexPai is interesting as an innovative product, but its functionality leaves much to be desired. The main thing is that its screen has the ability to bend 180 degrees.

To be more precise, the user gets two smartphones that have a total screen of 7.8 inches. When unfolded, the device is a tablet with a shorter left frame than the right. The developers did not manage to get the ideal plane when unfolded. A slight protrusion due to the middle hinge interferes.

When closed, the product becomes completely flat and compact. It is protected from unrolling by powerful magnets that hold the halves in position.

Both screens can be used as two separate smartphones with dual SIM cards. Each of them is approximately 4 inches in size. Both SIM cards work the same with either half of the panel.

The screen has good sharpness and a resolution of 1920 x 1440. The device measures 190.3 x 134 x 7.6 mm and weighs 320 grams. It is heavier than most flagship smartphones, but lighter than many tablets.

Royole FlexPai bezels are thin except for one. It contains most of the important elements of the device, as well as two cameras.

Two sensors of this module have a resolution of 16 and 20 megapixels. They are equipped with optical image stabilization. Selfie cameras are not provided, due to the possible use of the main one for frontal filming. The product can be folded in such a way that it will be in front or behind.

The quality of the video and photography is rated as good. More detailed data will come later.

It should be noted that the smartphone has a USB-C port, a fingerprint scanner. Sadly, the lack of a headphone jack, music lovers will not understand this.

The device has a 3800 mAh battery, which seems insufficient for such a screen area. This nuance is slightly smoothed out by the presence of fast charging technology.

Internal filling

The Royole FlexPai software has been rated by reporters and experts as terrible. It uses its own Water OS software on top of Android 9 Pie. The developers managed to figure out how to make the OS switch between smartphone and tablet modes. But that's all.

At the heart of all the hardware is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM. However, the use of one of the most modern processors did not make the device system work fast enough. It works very slowly.

It takes a long time to load, it takes a long time to switch, it does everything for a long time. The product has a long way to go before its performance meets current requirements.

At the same time, many of those who researched the smartphone noted some of its interesting applications and functions.

Everyone is looking forward to 5G this year. It is gratifying that the first smartphone with a flexible screen will be able to work in this standard. To do this, you just need to wait for the update of the existing application and download it.
