The global coronavirus pandemic has made adjustments in many areas and forced a new look at the use of high-tech developments. So, robots Boston Dynamics in the form of a four-legged creature began to patrol public places, where they monitor the observance of the distance between people. The pilot experiment started in one of the local parks in Singapore, the caretaker of which was a robot dog named Spot. A small yellow robot periodically drives along the entire perimeter of the recreation area and reminds everyone to keep a certain distance from each other. To do this, its mechanism has pre-built recordings of warning phrases, and in the park itself, local authorities posted posters asking not to interfere with the robotic caretaker in his work. The four-legged device is controlled remotely. A tablet, cameras and special sensors are fixed on his head. The latter allow the robot to fix and successfully avoid obstacles on the way, and cameras help to recognize areas where a large number of visitors have accumulated. At the same time, the Singapore authorities separately clarify the moment that Spot is not equipped with a person identification system and does not collect any personal information.
At the stage of the experiment, the robotic dog "works" during the period of the lowest load, but it is possible that in the future it will continue to patrol certain territories even at the moments of their greatest workload. In the future, Boston Dynamics robots of a similar configuration are planned to be additionally equipped with equipment for remote monitoring of vital parameters such as heart rate and respiration rate, temperature. Recently, there has been an increasing use of high-tech robots as a reminder to adhere to safe distance standards. In a number of countries, they began to introduce control drones, the functions of which are based on several actions at once: from a polite request and a harsh warning to actions that force one to disperse a certain distance. Some robotic mechanisms that perform security tasks now additionally broadcast warning messages about safety and compliance with sanitary recommendations. The global pandemic, as it turned out, has played a positive role for robotics. According to companies that create robots and related technologies, the demand for their development has increased significantly. The coronavirus has forced manufacturers to implement new mechanisms and improve existing ones, and ultimately the use of robots to fight the epidemic may go beyond the functions of a loudspeaker or a caretaker. For example, the same robot Spot, in addition to patrolling the area, began to be used in hospitals, helping in the fight against a viral infection. And the USA Sberbank on the basis of a courier robot has created a prototype of a disinfector robot, the tasks of which fully correspond to its name. In five minutes, the device is capable of sanitizing 20 sq. m, and overnight cope with a room of 2500 sq. m.
