There is a lot of competition in the wireless noise canceling headphone market. Many electronics manufacturers want to find their niche there and expand it. It is not surprising that such a well-known developer as Beyerdynamic also decided to look for a place here. In order to distinguish their new product from the crowd, the company's engineers have endowed it with several "chips". One of them was the original backlight system that paints the headphones in different colors. They change depending on the status of the Bluetooth connection and the state of charge of the battery. Let's tell you what else is interesting in the new device.

Design and specifications

Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC Wireless Active Noise Canceling Headphones are compact and lightweight.

They are made of high quality plastic, aluminum and artificial leather. The speaker mounts to the headband are not only secure, they still rotate. This is necessary so that the gadget can be folded into the supplied complete case.

For the convenience of users, the part of the arc adjacent to the human head is trimmed with a foam material with a memory effect. He is able to maintain a given shape for some time.

The first testers and owners of the Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC note the excellent build quality of the product. All moving parts here do not emit extraneous sounds, and stationary elements look monolithic.

The presence of a small number of colors of the headphone case can be considered a conditional disadvantage of the design. They are only sold in black with brown accents.

Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC work on a closed principle of operation; for synchronization with a sound source, they use the Bluetooth 4.2 protocol. Their nominal impedance is 20 ohms, the frequency mode is 20 Hz to 30 kHz.

The device supports audio profiles: A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HSP, SPP and audio codecs: aptX LL, aptX, AAC, SBC. The transducers here have a diameter of 40 mm.

The autonomy of the gadget without ANC is 45 hours, with the noise reduction system turned on - 24.5 hours. The device weighs 283 grams.

Controls and features

All Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC controls are concentrated on the right earcup. They are physical and sensory here.

By pressing on the outside of the cup, it's easy to change the sound volume, start playback or stop a track, answer an incoming call (or reject it). Physical control buttons are located on the side of the earpiece.

They can be used to enable Bluetooth connection and toggle between the two noise canceling modes. In the presence of a 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB-C port. There are microphones for noise cancellation, phone calls and communication with a voice assistant.

The left earphone is equipped with spoken microphones only.

Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC have functionality that is typical of a premium gadget. It was already mentioned above about their support for the main codecs and audio profiles. Syncing and listening to music is fine here.

The presence of powerful converters and proprietary software for iOS and Android allows you to process the sound appropriately or adjust it.

The device is able to prompt the user to enable a particular function, charge level or connection status. In addition, various system changes are signaled by a light illuminated on the inside of both cups.

Sound quality

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC equalizer is configured in the proprietary MIY application. The device produces excellent sound quality. The highs are rich and sonorous, while the lows are powerful and energetic.

The songs you listen to are well balanced and high in detail. At the same time, the low frequencies do not draw all attention to themselves, the middle ones are almost invisible, but effective, and the high frequencies do not press on the ears.

Picky music lovers may not like the lack of proper energy in sound transmission. Most other listeners will think everything is fine.

Active Noise Cancellation and Autonomy

The ANC system in the headphones of the German manufacturer has two modes. When you turn on the first, the sound does not change, but almost all external sounds disappear.

The second mode is even tougher in this regard. It not only cuts off all noises and sounds, but also makes the sound of the device somehow unnatural. Sometimes you can hear hiss in the background. Therefore, you should use this mode if absolutely necessary.

The manufacturer claims that the autonomy of the gadget when the active noise cancellation system is on is 24 hours. In fact, it is 19-20 hours.

If the battery of the device is completely discharged, then for further listening to music, you can connect the 3.5 mm supplied cable. To charge the battery, there is a special cord that connects to the USB-C connector.

Summary

Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones deliver rich, crisp and clear sound. They also have an effective active noise cancellation system. There is a proprietary application for adjusting the equalizer and performing a number of other functions.

The disadvantages of the model include the high cost, the possibility of false triggering of the control panel.
