Netflix is ??into women's football

Image The online service Netflix continues to try new genres. This time, the streaming giant will turn to sports and take viewers to the raging arenas of the 1999 Women's World Cup.

Netflix has acquired the film rights to Jere Longman's Girls of Summer, which chronicles the triumph of the US women's soccer team at home. The 1999 World Championships set many records. Thus, the attendance of the tournament is estimated at 1.2 million spectators. This achievement was surpassed only after 16 years at the World Cup in Canada.

The final of the World Cup, in which the teams of the United States and China met, set another record for women's football: 90,185 spectators gathered at the Rose Bowl. The hosts won the penalty shootout, which led to a real soccer boom in North America.
