Inspector French takes over
The company the Free @ of Last the TV introduces television fans with the work of the Irish master of the detective genre Freeman Wills Crofts. An independent British studio begins work on a series about the adventures of Inspector Joseph French.Until the age of forty, Crofts worked as an engineer on the Belfast Railroad. In 1929, the Irishman thundered into a hospital bed and became seriously interested in writing. Freeman's books began to be in demand, and he soon gave up his engineering career. In 1924, the writer created his most famous character - Detective French. The stories about the adventures of the savvy inspector have become a serious competitor to the novels of Agatha Christie, G.K. Chesterton and other masters of the crime genre, and over the years they have become considered classics of the Golden Age of the detective and the harbingers of modern police procedures.  Brendan Foley (Johnny Dynamite) will be responsible for the adaptation of Crofts' book series. According to preliminary information, viewers will meet French shortly after he leaves Scotland Yard and moves to Ireland. The situation for Joseph will be complicated by the fact that local law enforcers are accustomed to acting in the old fashioned way and treat new methods of detective work with undisguised skepticism ... Insiders claim that the bosses of Free @ Last TV got the rights to several dozen more books that were part of the "Classic Crime Fiction Club" series by HarperCollins.
