The CBS channel is developing a series based on the stories of the famous British writer Agatha Christie about her equally famous heroine, Miss Marple. This is reported by the Variety edition.

David Wolstencroft ("Ghosts") is creating a detective drama called "Marple". He, Hilary Strong on behalf of Agatha Christie Ltd. and the grandson of the writer Matthew Pritchard ("Miss Marple Agatha Christie") will share the functions of executive producers.

Unlike the books, the series will feature a younger version of the main character, specializing in solving crimes. In the center of the plot is "Marple" – a young lady who, after inheriting her grandmother's bookstore and realizing that something is happening in her small town in California, begins working as a private investigator to get answers to all her secrets.

CBS is not the first television network to adapt stories about Miss Marple for television. The BBC aired a series of television movies starring Joan Hickson from 1984 to 1992. Another British TV series, this time on the ITV channel, Agatha Christie's Miss Marple aired from 2004 to 2014. In the first three seasons, the role of Miss Marple was played by Geraldine McEwen, who was then replaced by Julia McKenzie.

First introduced in 1927, Miss Marple appeared in a total of 20 stories and 12 detective novels by Christie.

CBS Television Studios will be producing the upcoming series.
