Universal vs. cinemas. Round 2

Image It looks like Universal isn't afraid of a war with movie theater owners. The spring story is still fresh in the memory of the audience, when a Hollywood studio deceived the cinema network and sent the cartoon “Trolls. World Tour ”to streaming platforms. Today Universal threw out another provocative trick with the ears.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only 988 out of 40,000 cinemas are operating in the United States. Mainly small car cinemas remained afloat, which even at the best of times could hardly make ends meet. Universal had to support their owners with the release of The King of Staten Island.

Today it became known that cinemas did not wait for reels and digital copies of the film. Soon, the studio announced that an unfortunate misunderstanding had occurred between it and the owners of the cinemas: the comedy would be released only on paid online services.

The scandal with the "Trolls" led to the fact that the AMC network refused to cooperate with Universal. After the situation with the "King of Staten Island" this initiative will certainly be supported by other cinemas.
