Deadline has been able to obtain information that Oscar winner William Friedkin ("Live and Die in Los Angeles") is starting work over the adaptation of Don Winslow's novel The Winter Of Frankie Machine ( The Winter Of Frankie Machine ). Fridkin will also lead the filming of the film.For a long time, the studio Paramount worked on the project, and Martin Scorsese and Michael Mann were among the directors of the picture. However, some time ago, the rights to film adaptation returned to the author. Fridkin plans to make a film similar to one of his previous works - the crime drama "Killer Joe". The film adaptation of the bestseller Winslow seems to the director as a sullen, full of dirt low-budget film, something between "Vice for Export" and "Justified Cruelty." And if Paramount was going to spend $ 70 million on filming, then Fridkin talks about the amount of $ 15 million .  At the center of the book is the hitman Frank Macchiano who retired to open his own business - a shop with fishing tackle. Once Frank agrees to help the mafia boss out of old friendship - to resolve the conflict between his son and another gangster. But the main character could not even think that he himself would be trapped and, in order to save his own skin, he would be forced to again become a formidable killer, nicknamed Frankie Machine .
