Netflix and BBC are filming Hillside

Image The British corporation BBC and the online service Netflix have decided to join forces on an animated mini-series based on the famous novel by Richard Adams " The Hillsites " which was also published in USA under the titles " Amazing Adventures of Rabbits ", " Ship Hill " and " The Great Journey of Rabbits ".

According to Variety , James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Kingsley, John Boyega, Gemma Arterton, Olivia Coleman and many other film and television stars will give voices to the main characters of the four-part cartoon. The animation team of the project will be led by Peter Dodd, whose track record includes such popular cartoons as Fantastic Mr. Fox and Frankenweeny.

The animated miniseries will focus on a group of rabbits who had to leave their old colony and embark on a dangerous journey in search of a new home.

Despite the fact that the book Adams is reasonably considered one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century, at one time a number of British publishing houses refused it. Only the perspicacious book publisher Rex Collings decided to believe in the writer's talent, and he made the right decision - in 2003, the novel “ The Hill Inhabitants ” was voted 42nd by almost a million Britons in the list “ Top 200 BBC Books ".

A feature-length cartoon and an animated series have already been filmed based on The Hills Inhabitants . The first was released in 1978, six years after the publication of the novel. Martin Rosen's tape was warmly received by critics and won the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films award, but could not perform successfully at the box office. One of the main reasons for her failure in the box office is associated with an overly gloomy tone that scared off many young viewers.

In 1999, Rosen produced a 39-episode animated series that took into account the mistakes of its predecessor - it was intended primarily for children.

The new version of The Hillsites will premiere on Netflix and BBC next year.
