Warner Bros. Studio has decided to give new life to the popular comedy franchise " Cannonball Racing ", reports Deadline . Plans to reboot the film series appeared several years ago, when the Hollywood major hoped to attract the automobile corporation General Motors to work on the project, but it was only now that negotiations on the acquisition of the rights from screenwriter Brock Yates and the heirs of director Hal Needham were completed.The original comedy Needham was released in 1981. Its main characters were desperate and unscrupulous drivers, ready to build any intrigues on their rivals in the transnational car race. The cast included such stars as Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Fonda and Jackie Chan. After the movie about sports earned more than $ 72 million at the box office, Golden Harvest gave the go-ahead for the production of the sequel. In 1989, another film in the franchise was released - Speed Zone.  The reboot will be written and directed by Ethan Cohen . The filmmaker made a name for himself in Hollywood thanks to his work on the plots of the comedy Soldiers of Failure, the cartoon Madagascar 2 and the blockbuster Men in Black 3. Last year, he made his debut as a director with the film "Be Strong!", Which did not cause enthusiasm among critics, but safely got to the level of self-sufficiency.
