Disney continues to close Fox projects
After The Walt Disney Company bought Fox for $ 71.3 billion, the head of the Walt Disney Company, Alan Horn, canceled a number of Fox projects in the preproduction stage. As The Hollywood Reporter found out, House of Mouse will most likely refuse another film - Ted Melfi's dramedy about a mental hospital called Fruit Loops with Woody Harrelson.Previously, Disney turned down a $ 170 million large-budget adaptation of The Mouse Guard, the historical drama News of the World starring Tom Hanks, and the film adaptation of Angie Thomas's bestseller On the Come Up. The last two projects went to Universal and Paramount. The latter was scrapped, as Thomas’s recent film The Hate You Generate brought the studio more than $ 30 million in losses on a modest $ 23 million budget. The Mouse Guard, which was slated to begin filming in May, was too expensive. At the same time, as you know, the responsible department of the film company did not receive recommendations to engage in lower-budget projects. Instead, studio executives requested more films in the PG-13 and R categories for a wider audience.  Despite the suspension of work on many projects, some films, which received the green light in late December and early January from Fox President Emma Watts, continue to move forward. Among them are the Kingsman prequel The Great Game, the low-budget witchcraft film Fear Street, and Steven Spielberg's West Side Story. However, even approved projects face difficulties. For example, Alan Horn disapproves of the smoking scenes of young characters in West Side Story: “We should always think about anti-smoking policy. The studio audience may not know what to expect from the film, but they always know what they will not see on the screen.
