Disney closed the Mouse Guard

Image After 20th Century Fox became part of Disney, the future of many of its projects was in question. It is expected that some of them will be closed already at the production stage. As it became known, just a few weeks before the start of filming, Disney refused to release the film adaptation of "The Mouse Guard". Now the production of the fantasy film will be delayed indefinitely.

The exact reason for this decision by the studio is not clear, however there are several explanations. First of all, Disney considered the adaptation of the comic book too similar to its remakes of The Lion King and The Jungle Book, which use the same motion capture technique. Secondly, the bosses of the company intend to transfer Fox strictly to medium-scale films, and such a large project as "Mouse Guard" with a budget of $ 150-170 million, obviously does not fit into the plans of the film giant. Nevertheless, there are still exceptions to this rule. So, the upcoming big-budget sequels to James Cameron's Avatar will be released under the Disney label.

Guard of Mouse is a popular comic by David Petersen, released in 2006. The plot is set in a medieval world and tells the story of a brotherhood whose members are chosen to protect their fellows from predators. The comic won the Eisner Prize and has been translated into ten languages. The universe of the "Mouse Guard" is famous for its detailed elaboration of the world, a well-thought-out story and characters.

The upcoming film is directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner), and the cast includes Andy Serkis (Black Panther), Thomas Sangster (Game of Thrones) and Idris Elba (Luther). Given the ambitiousness of the fantasy adaptation, the project could soon find a new home as Disney allowed producers to transfer it to another studio. Some big Hollywood companies are already interested in the film, including Netflix, which is in search of major projects. What's more, the producer of The Mouse Guard, Matt Reeves, has already made a preliminary deal with the streaming giant.
