WB needs one win

Image Jauma Collet-Serra's career in cinema began with the horror film House of Wax, but over time the director switched to action thrillers, and is now known as the person who constantly gets Liam Neeson into trouble. However, Collet Serra wanted variety and turned his attention to a project of a completely different kind: the Warner Bros. studio. invited the filmmaker to head the shooting of the remake of the sports drama Victory.

The 1981 film is set during the Second World War. A group of prisoners of war waiting for a football match with the German national team in Nazi-occupied Paris. At the same time, the coach of the prisoners' team Robert Hatch is preparing an escape plan, and his charges have yet to decide which is more important - the victory over the Germans in front of thousands of spectators or their own freedom. The film was directed by Oscar winner John Houston, and starred Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone and legendary footballer Pele.

WB had long intended to film a remake of "Victory" and even offered the post of director to Doug Lyman, but the project was never realized. Anthony Tambakis ("Dangerous Business") is currently writing the film - he will rewrite the text, which he prepared with Gavin O'Connor ("Warrior") back in 2017.

For Collet Serra, a remake of Victory is an opportunity to try his hand at a new genre, although this is not the director's first deviation from his usual action games. The adventure film Jungle Cruise, which he shot, will be released next year.
