Swamp Thing will get its own TV series

Image In January, it became known that DC is preparing a project for its future online service called Metropolis, the protagonists of which are to be Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. Now, the company has announced that another DC comic character will have its own show. According to the official press release, the Swamp Thing game series has gone into production. The script will be written by Mark Verheiden ("Constantine", "Daredevil") and Gary Doberman ("It"). Also involved in the drama will be Aquaman's director James Wan, who will executive produce the new show.

The series will tell about the events following the return of CDC employee Abby Erkane to her hometown in Louisiana, where she comes to research a deadly virus found in the swamps. An unusual relationship is struck between Abby and scientist Alec Holland, but the latter soon dies. At this time, powerful people appear in the city, intending to use the swamps for their own purposes, and then Abby learns that these places keep many secrets, and Alec may still be alive.

Swamp Thing is one of the most unusual characters in DC, but he never gained huge popularity among comic book fans. In 1982, Wes Craven made a film in which Alec Holland, as a result of a tragic accident turned into the Swamp Thing, was played by Ray Wise. Seven years later, the film acquired a low-budget sequel, which did not repeat the success of its predecessor, and in the early 90s, game and animated series about the Swamp Thing were released on small screens.
