Amazon will go in search of the Dark Tower
Last November, we reported that Amazon online service had begun creating a high-budget television series based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien about Middle-earth. As it became known to the publication Deadline, the streaming giant is preparing to please the audience with the adaptation of yet another legendary book cycle. Amazon bosses have decided to take the TV adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" under their wing.The first attempts to film the saga of the adventures of Roland Descene were made in the middle of the last decade. At first, J.J. Abrams planned to deal with the film adaptation of the book series, and then the project in transit through Ron Howard passed to Nicholas Arcel. The Dane and Sony Pictures had plans to create a trilogy and a television prequel about Strelk's youth. The studio's grandiose plan went down the drain when The Dark Tower received devastating press coverage and earned only $ 113 million from a production budget of $ 60 million.  On the day the film was released, Sony's management announced that the showrunner of the series will be Glen Mazzara, who at one time very successfully directed the group of authors of the popular zombie drama The Walking Dead. However, it soon became obvious that the starting film of the film series would not be able to get to the level of self-sufficiency. Since then, not a single news has come from the Sony camp about the further fate of the ambitious project, which is why fans of the King of Horrors have suspicions that the studio has abandoned the idea of further developing the franchise. It should be noted that Amazon officials have not yet confirmed the news of the acquisition of the rights to the series based on "The Dark Tower". However, such a reputable publication as Deadline would hardly give unverified information. The details of the deal are still kept secret. It is possible that Amazon will partner with Sony to help the Hollywood studio finally launch Arcel's TV prequel. Earlier it was reported that the series could give viewers a new meeting with the heroes of Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.  At the same time, it cannot be ruled out that the online service has bought the entire package of rights for the film adaptation of the book cycle and will prefer to arrange a complete reboot of the franchise.
