Clones have nine lives

Image Recently in the world of film and television, a real boom has begun in film adaptations of the classics of science fiction and fantasy. In May of this year, we reported that Hollywood is preparing a film adaptation of the famous book cycle by Ursula C. Le Guin "Earthsea". As it became known to Deadline, British producers Gavin Humphries (People vs. George Lucas) and Josephine Rose (Dad's Army) are preparing their response to the Dream Factory. Her Majesty's subjects have acquired the rights to film adaptation of Le Guin's other famous book, Nine Lives.

The first publication of a science fiction story took place in 1968 in Playboy magazine, whose editors insisted that the writer indicate only her initials. There is a legend that the number with "Nine Lives" caught the eye of US President Lyndon Johnson, who was completely delighted with what he had read. The attention of the first person of the state helped to increase the circulation of the men's edition of Hugh Hefner and reveal to the public that a woman was hiding behind the name of W.C. Le Guin. In 1969, Nine Lives earned the writer a Nebula Award nomination for Best Short Novel. Six years later, Ursula included her hit in the compilation Twelve Points of the Wind.

The story takes place on the planet Libra, uninhabitable for human life, but rich in natural resources. By the will of fate, scientists Owen Pugh and Alvaro Martin become the only inhabitants of the Libra-2 research base. Six months later, their leadership finally decides to send new people to the mining colony. To the surprise of Pew and Martin, five male and five female clones of the same person arrive on the planet ...

The director's chair of the film adaptation of "Nine Lives" will be taken by Scottish Siri Rodnes, who previously worked only in the field of television and short films. The Edinburgh native will be assisted by BAFTA nominee Tom Basden (The Plebeians) with the script for the film.
