Former True Blood showrunner Mark Hudis and Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld have signed with streaming service Netflix to adapt the Lemonie Snicket book series 33 Misfortunes. This is reported by the Variety edition.

Hudis will take over the duties of the showrunner of the series and share the functions of the executive producer with Sonnenfeld, who will act as the director of the TV project. Cycle writer Daniel Handler has also been appointed Executive Producer on behalf of Paramount Television, the studio that produced the 2004 feature movie Lemony Snicket: 33 Misfortunes, starring Jim Carrey.
