The streaming video service Netflix has acquired the rights to create a puppet animated movie titled Bubbles, which will focus on Michael Jackson's chimpanzee, at the Cannes International Film Market. According to the Variety edition, the deal was worth about $ 20 million.

Taika Waititi, who was previously recruited by Marvel Studios for the movieing of Thor 3: Ragnarok, has been appointed to direct the project. The terms of work on the cartoon and the schedule for its release at the time of this writing have not been specified.

Recall that Michael Jackson took a young chimpanzee, whom he named Bubbles, from one of the research centers in Texas in 1983. Soon, the singer's pet began to accompany him during all concert tours and official visits. A special staff of servants was assigned to him.

Jackson and Bubbles' friendship lasted until the mid-2000s. The matured chimpanzee began to show aggression characteristic of this species of primates, and it became dangerous to keep it at home, especially after the birth of children. Bubbles was sent to a special shelter in Florida, where he was provided with the best possible conditions of detention. Bubbles outlived its owner and, at the time of this writing, was still at the orphanage.
