NBC is returning to the comic book genre. According to The Holllywood Reporter, the channel is joining forces with Crime Scene writer Carol Mendelssohn and Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Drys to adapt Mark Silvestri's comic "Witchblade".

Founded. in the graphic novel, the eponymous drama, which will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, tells the story of homicide detective Sarah Pezzini on the hunt for an elusive serial killer. Sarah is forced to survive on the terrible streets of San Francisco and come to terms with the politics of the city's police until one day the bracelet she has worn all her life allows her to understand the essence of the crime in the most supernatural way. Her bracelet is the Blade of the Witches, an amulet, worn by prominent women throughout history, and Sara – next in line.

Drys will write and executive produce with his Vampire Diaries co-star Brian Young, Sylvester and David Alpert.
