Barbara Hershey cast in TV sequel Omena

Golden Globe Award winner Barbara Hershey (Murder in a Small Town) will co-star in Lifetime's Damien, the sequel to the 1976 feature movie The Omen. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The drama from executive producer Glen Mazzara ("The Walking Dead"), produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, continues the story of Damien Thorne, the mysterious boy from the 1976 movie who is now , an adult, is haunted by his past. Damien faces a series of dire events and finally must accept his fate, realizing that he is the Antichrist.

Hershey will play the role of Anna Rutledge, the most powerful woman in the world, who is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing for Damien to fulfill his destiny as the Antichrist.

In the six-part drama, Omid Abtahi (Better Call Saul) will play the role of close co-worker Damien, whose loyalty will be tested after he discovers who his friend really is.

Mazzara will write and executive produce with Ross Fineman (Put Out the Lights), who was also involved in the development of the TV project. Other executive producers include Pancho Mansfield (Queen of the South) and Shekhar Kapoor (Elizabeth). The latter will shoot the first episode of the drama, which will premiere this year.

On television, Hershey has starred in such series as Once Upon a Time, The Mountain, Hope Chicago and others.
