Filming of the series based on the novel by Patrick Suskind Perfumer will begin in 2016
The German movie company Constantin Film, which has shot the movie "Perfumer: The Story of a Murderer" based on the famous novel by Patrick Suskind "Perfumer", will be engaged in a teleadaptation of the book. According to The Hollywood Reporter, according to one of the company's executives, Oliver Berben, the series will begin movieing in 2016. Director Tom Tykwer's feature movie, released in 2006, became an international hit with a budget of 60 million dollars more than 135 million. In the novel and in the movie, the action takes place in France in the eighteenth century, and the center of attention is Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (in the movie, he was played by Ben Whishaw), a man with an incredibly fine sense of smell, who later becomes a great perfumer. Jean-Baptiste is obsessed with the idea of creating the perfect perfume and starts killing girls to "take" their scent. The TV version will retain the basic ideas about the smell-obsessed serial killer and the use of scents to control emotions, however, the action will be postponed to modern Germany. The story is set in an international boarding school, where young women begin to die, murdered in the same way as in Suskind's novel. The company plans to shoot a limited-episode series – from six to eight – and an open ending for a possible continuation. Last year, Constantin Film announced plans to adapt several of its feature movies to television. The first such experience was the TV series "Shadowhunters" which will premiere at the ongoing MIPCOM exhibition at the time of this writing. The company is also developing a TV version of its popular sci-fi movie franchise "Resident Evil".
