William Hill, one of the largest bookmakers in the United Kingdom, has identified Ben Whishaw as the top contender for Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who role when Capaldi leaves the show after season ten. The company offers 6/1 bets that the star of the psychological thriller "Perfumer: The Story of a Murderer" will become the next Time Lord – an alien with two hearts, periodically changing its appearance. This is reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Among other possible candidates to replace the Scottish actor, William Hill names actor Richard Ayoade (8/1), Rory Kinnear (8/1) and Rupert Grint (8/1).

The bookmaker also does not exclude the possibility that the new showrunner of "Doctor Who" Chris Chibnell will break tradition and make the Doctor a woman. William Hill offers 6/1 bets on the next Doctor to be a woman and 20/1 on Olivia Colman or Billie Piper to play the role.
