"Iron Man" and "The Jungle Book" director Jon Favreau will direct the first episode of the yet to be titled hour-long comedy-drama directed by Seth MacFarlane for Fox. Favreau, who is also an executive producer, will retain his duties as a consultant for the project, which was commissioned for production, bypassing the pilot stage. The action in the series takes place three hundred years in the future, and the crew of the Orville, a reconnaissance ship of the Earth's star fleet, is at the center of events. McFarlane has written and executive produced the pilot and will star in the series as Ed, Captain of the Orville.
