Legendary Television and producer Matthew Tolmach ("The Amazing Spider-Man") have acquired the rights to the dystopian comic series "Lazarus" by Greg Ruki and Michael Lark for further adaptation in the series. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

First published in October 2013 by Image Comics, Lazarus depicts a futuristic world dominated by 16 wealthy families. Each family has its own Lazarus, a genetically engineered, unkillable creature that protects the family. The central character in the comic is Carlisle, aka Lazarus. She uses force and deception to protect her family and her interests. The comic raises questions of the structure of society, and also explores such concepts as morality and love.

Hand will write the script for the pilot episode, and will also share the functions of executive producer with Lark and Tolmach. Ruka, a five-time Eisner Prize winner, is best known for his popular series of novels about Atticus Codiak. He executive produced the drama thriller Whiteout, based on his comic book series of the same name, starring Kate Beckinsale.

Two-time Eisner Prize-winning Lark has appeared in comics about Daredevil, Captain America and the Winter Soldier, and Gotham.

Launched in 2013, Legendary Television is currently in production over two serials – "Colony" by Carlton Cuse for USA Network and two seasons of "Love" by Judd Apatow, Paul Rast and Leslie Arfin for Netflix.
