The premiere of the new AMC series "The Preacher" on Sunday, May 22, 2016 would benefit from divine intervention. Faced with powerful competitors on other channels, the teleadaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon has won rather modest ratings. This is reported by The Wrap.

The first episode of the drama, produced by executive producers Seth Rogen and Ivan Goldberg, attracted a modest 2.4 million viewership and achieved a 0.9 rating among a key audience of 18 to 49 years according to Nielsen.

On Sunday night, the series rivals were HBO's Game of Thrones (7.9 million viewers, rating 4.0), a replay after the NBA draw by TNT (8 million viewers, rating 3, 1) and a key NHL game on NBC.

It is too early for The Preacher to give up, drawing on the experience of other AMC shows. So, the first episode of "Mad Men" at one time attracted only 1.7 million viewers, and the premiere of "Breaking Bad" is even less - and ndash; only 1.4 million people. Initial modest ratings did not prevent both dramas from winning numerous professional awards and audience love.

In the new AMC drama, Dominic Cooper plays the role of a preacher from Texas with a dark past Jesse Custer. Having become an unwitting participant in a supernatural incident, Jesse, in the company of his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and the Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgan), sets out in search of God to bring him to justice.
