AMC has commissioned the production of a pilot for the TV adaptation of the "Preacher" comic from Vertigo. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The "Preacher" comic series, created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon in the 1990s, focuses on the Reverend Jesse Custer, an obstinate Texas preacher who, having lost his faith, discovers that God left Heaven and neglected his duties. Jesse is the only one who is able to find God and hold him responsible for his actions. Tulip O'Hare, Jesse's ex-girlfriend, and his vampire buddy Cassidy accompany him as he searches for answers. But the story doesn't end there: The Assassin's Patron Saint, an immortal being, and a lone shooter from the West, follow Jesse on his heels, hatching insidious plans.

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Kathleen were involved in the adaptation of the comic. The latter wrote the script and is appointed showrunner for The Preacher, overseen by James Weaver (Neighbors on the Warpath). Rogen and Goldberg will be in charge of the production. The pilot will begin production in summer 2015 with a premiere scheduled for 2016. The creators of the comic, Ennis and Dillon, are claimed to be co-producers.

"If you want to read Preacher, you will see images of violence, foul language and the like on its pages that we cannot show you on the commercial television, "AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement. – But I wish the fans of this comic would know that we will treat it with all the respect. It is important, because the story and the characters are amazing. Where else can you see it on TV? "

There have been two attempts to movie the comic for the wide screen. HBO also had plans to make a series based on it, however, according to one of the channel's executives," Preacher "turned out to be "too dark, too violent and too controversial."
