The dark historical series Taboo, co-produced by FX and BBC, has been renewed for a second season. The next season of the drama, starring Tom Hardy, will be directed by the actor's banner Hardy Son & Baker and Ridley Scott's Scott Free London company. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The new season of the series, created by Stephen Knight, Hardy and his father Chips Hardy, will consist of eight hours of episodes. The action in the first season was set in 1817. Long believed dead, Hardy's character James Keziah Delaney returns to London to inherit what remains of his father's shipping empire. However, this turns out to be not so easy.

" We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX. This is fantastic news, "Hardy said in particular. Executive Producer Ridley Scott added," We're glad people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are ready for new adventures with Devil Delaney and his league of damned ".

According to BBC officials, Taboo has become one of the most successful dramas on the BBC iPlayer digital service and" a real hit with a younger audience. "
