Large display with smooth data display

In our country, two modifications of the line were shown: HUAWEI P40 and P40 Pro. They are similar in appearance, but they have different batteries and screens.

The P40 Pro has received a technology called Overflow Display - a streamlined display. Here it is 6.58-inch with a resolution of 2640 x 1200 pixels.

It has curled edges in all four directions. For convenience, the control buttons were placed on a metal frame, and not on the touch end like other devices with waterfall screens.

The device screen received an OLED matrix. Its pluses include the presence of high resolution at a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz and no flicker.

The technology also has its drawbacks: lower brightness than last year's model and the presence of a yellow spectrum in white. This gives the impression that the eye protection function is constantly working, although it is not.

The Chinese have equipped the model with a dual front camera unit. Therefore, it takes up a lot of space in the upper left corner of the display.

The main camera is oriented vertically. She also has an impressive module.

I would like to have more modest dimensions, as is the case with the P30 Pro. There are the same number of sensors, but the size is smaller.

HUAWEI P40 Pro in USA will be sold in silver, black and blue cases. The back panel in all variants is matte, glass. This is good because there will be fewer prints.

Cameras and photo capabilities

The device is positioned as a camera phone, so it is logical to expect something interesting from it in terms of photo capabilities.

As in the previous modification, it supports 5x optical, 10x digital and 50x maximum zoom. But the novelty received other sensors: the main one has a resolution of 50 megapixels (1 / 1.28 inches) and support for optical stabilization, the ultra-wide-angle lens is 40 megapixels (1 / 1.54 inches), and the telephoto lens received a 12 megapixel lens. There is also a sensor for determining the depth of the shooting. All modules are made by Leica.

The principle of operation of the main camera is the same as before. It combines four adjacent pixels into one to create a frame with improved sharpness and color rendition.

Testers note that the wide-angle camera performs better than the main one. It produces more natural looking shots with optimal brightness.

Televik works fine, but 5x magnification is not always enough. It would be nice to have 3x zoom when shooting portraits. However, it is only digital here.

The manufacturer paid enough attention to video filming. The P40 Pro shoots in 4K at 60 fps and OIS support. The front camera can also shoot video of similar quality. Selfie lovers will surely love this.

HUAWEI promised to equip the device with a number of interesting features. Such as, for example, Eliminate Reflection, which helps to remove glare when shooting shop windows. However, this is not yet the case. We can only hope that the new functionality will appear with the next system update.

New skin

HUAWEI is deprived of Google services, but continues to develop its own system based on Android. The P40 Pro has received the updated EMUI 10.1. Here, by default, all control is gesture, there are no "Back" and "Home" buttons. Those who wish can find them in the settings and enable them.

There is also a side menu. You can extract the necessary applications from it, drag them to the desktop. You can also use the dark mode hidden in the curtain.

HUAWEI Assistant can be found on the left desktop. Test lovers can compare its performance with its Google counterpart.

The HUAWEI P40 Pro smartphone belongs rather to the category of controversial devices. It has a striking design, powerful filling and fast charging. But the display is disappointing with unnecessary shades of yellow. In addition, for a camera phone, it has average photo capabilities, it lacks a number of necessary functions. Therefore, not everyone will definitely choose it, but only a true fan of the line.
