Windows 10 keyboard shortcuts for everyone (Topic)

Not everyone knows that hotkeys can easily make your work in Windows much easier and more convenient. Moreover, Windows 10 has delighted fans of Microsoft products with an abundance of new useful functions, which can be accessed through a combination of hot keys.

Windows button and arrows combination

This operation allows you to pin windows of open programs to different parts of the monitor. Compared to previous operating systems, in 10th version, the function of organizing on the screen of open windows is expanded.

Pressing the Win button and the up arrow again reduces the already open and docked window to a scale of 25% and moves it to the top of the screen. If the window was not previously docked, the same keyboard shortcut will expand it to full screen.

• Win + ? - attach the application window to the left edge of the screen.
• Win + ? - attach the application window to the right edge of the screen.
• Win + ? - maximize the application window to full screen. Or, if the window was previously docked to one of the edges, it will take up a quarter of the screen at the top.
• Win + ? - minimize the active window. Or, if the window was previously docked to one of the edges, it will take up a quarter of the screen at the bottom.

This hotkey interaction activates a new feature from Win10 - Task View.

Thus, the user is able to simultaneously see the windows of all open applications on the virtual desktop, which is very convenient for quick access to the desired one. You can switch to the active program with a single click.

• Ctrl + Tab - move forward through tabs
• Ctrl + Shift + Tab - go back through tabs

• Shift + Tab - go back through the parameters

Alt and Tab key interaction

This combination allows you to quickly switch between active windows of running programs. At the same time, the application applies only to a specific desktop.

• Alt + Tab - switch between active windows
• Alt + Shift + Tab - switch between active windows in reverse order
• Alt + Ctrl + Tab - displaying active windows with the ability to switch between nyrs
• Ctrl + Tab - switch between bookmarks of one application (for example, browser tabs)

Ctrl and N shortcut

According to the currently running application, it launches a new window. Moreover, its size completely coincides with the size of the previous one.

In a browser, this combination opens a new tab

• Ctrl + N - open a new window
• Ctrl + Shift + N - creates a new document with a default name. Chrome opens a tab in incognito mode.

Working with virtual desktops

• Win + Ctrl + D - create a new table;
• Win + Ctrl + left arrow - switch between virtual desktops from right to left.
• Win + Ctrl + Right Arrow - Switch between virtual desktops from left to right.
• Win + Ctrl + F4 - close the virtual desktop in use.
• Win + Tab - display all desktops and applications on them.
• Win + Ctrl + Tab - View all windows on open desktops.

Working with folders and files, search, programs

• Ctrl + Shift + Esc - start the task manager.
• Win + R - open the Run dialog box.
• Shift + Delete - delete files bypassing the trash can.
• Alt + Enter - display the properties of the selected item.
• Win + space - switch input language and keyboard layout.
• Win + A - open the "Support Center".
• Win + S - open the search window.
• Win + H - bring up the "Share" panel.
• Win + I - open the "Options" window.
• Win + E - open the "My Computer" window.
• Win + C - Open Cortana in listen mode

Cortana is not yet available in USA.

Screenshots and Screen Recording

• Win + PrtScr - take a screenshot and save it in your images folder.
• Win + Alt + PrtScr - take a screenshot of the game.
• Win + G - open the game panel to record the progress.
• Win + Alt + G - write the last 30 seconds in the active window.
• Win + Alt + R - start or stop recording.
• Win + P - switch between display modes (if there is a second display)
