Why Battlefield V Could Be the Biggest Failure of 2018 - Release Date Postponement and Other DICE Shooter Issues
The shooter Battlefield V is definitely on the list of top games in 2018. The continuation of the legendary series, the last games in which have sold over 10 million copies and a huge army of loyal fans, is there any reason to doubt the success of the fifth part of Battlefield? It turns out - there is also a new shooter Electronic Arts could become the loudest failure in the gaming industry in recent years. It got to the point that the publisher has moved the release date of Battlefield V to November 20, instead of the planned premiere on October 19. Let's try to figure out what is the reason for the failures of the shooter from DICE. Black Rock has been following Battlefield V since the announcement video and primarily through the fault of the game developers themselves. In short: disregard for the historical component of World War II and the transformation of a serious shooter into an action movie from the category of "Inglourious Basterds" and other films by Quentin Tarantino.  The game's chief designer Patrick Soderlund added additional fuel to the fire. He decided that the main complaint of the players with the trailer was the presence of playable female characters in multiplayer and accused the gamers of sexism. As if not noticing that women are the last thing, because of which the gaming community was indignant. Patrick's final phrase will generally go down in the annals of history: he advised players who do not like the game to completely abandon the idea of buying Battlefield 5. Apparently, gamers decided to heed Soderlund's wise advice. According to VentureBeat, the number of pre-orders for the game is significantly lower than expected. To date, the number of pre-ordered copies of the game Battlefield 5 is only slightly more than the initial sales of Titanfall 2, which, we recall, was the main financial flop for EA in 2016. As if that weren't enough, from the official description of multiplayer it became known that many gameplay modes of the game will be released only after the release. This applies to both "Battle Royale" and the special cooperative mode "United Forces". That is, on release, players will only receive standard competitive multiplayer and a single player campaign, which really does not meet the original expectations.  Apparently, Electronic Arts is aware of the possibility of the financial fiasco of Battlefield V and is preparing several surprises for gamers. The first surprise, according to the hosts of the popular gaming podcast Giant Bombcast, will be the release of the remaster of Battlefield Bad Company 2, the second - the release of the Battle Royale mode as a standalone Free2Play game. The final decision to shift the release date of Battlefield V to November 20 perfectly confirms all of the above. Previously, the game was supposed to be released in the interval between two other high-profile releases this fall - Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops 4. Obviously, this decision was dictated by the publisher's desire not to compete with other games, but to release Battlefield V in a relatively fishless, for loud gaming news, a week. We still advise you not to give up on the game ahead of time and take part at least in the Battlefield 5 open beta, which starts on September 6. Yet, even despite a series of scandals, do not forget that DICE has repeatedly established itself as the developers of some of the best multiplayer shooters on the planet.
