Best Fall 2019 Games on PC & Consoles

Traditionally, the autumn season is the busiest time of the year in the gaming industry for major blockbusters that take the first lines in the New Year's tops of the best games. But behind the stream of large-scale releases, you can easily overlook projects of a caliber, albeit smaller, but no less exciting. A bit of an unfair situation, so we decided to compile a list of the best games of the fall of 2019 on PC and consoles, collecting in one post both AAA games and less high-profile releases that you may have missed.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

The addon to last year's hit Capcom turned out to be extremely massive for the modern gaming industry. Here and an updated assortment of animals for every taste, and new locations flaunting picturesque snow-covered landscapes and in-depth customization mechanics along with an expanded arsenal of weapons. Why, you can even visit the bathhouse after another snow-covered safari. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is in many ways a reference expansion, but due to its increased difficulty, it is not recommended for beginners.

Gears 5

Platforms: PC, Xbox One

Let's admit, before the release of the game, we had concerns that Gears 5 would lose its former drive thanks to the emphasis on the girl Kate instead of the more square-faced thugs that are more familiar to the series. But, as it turned out, all the excitement was in vain. Studio The Coalition took into account the mistakes of the previous part and created an action movie worthy of the best work of Epic Games in the golden times for the series. Continuous action, battles with huge bosses and rain from severed limbs flying into the screen - oh yes, Gears 5 definitely honors the work of the fathers of the franchise and will give everything that fans love the Gears of War series for.

At the same time, it is important to note that the developers decided on some rather bold innovations: a droid assistant and several levels open for exploration, which cool the usual gameplay.

Blasphemous

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One, Nintendo Switch

Italian studio The Kitchen released their truly blasphemous work in September, Blasphemous, which is fully centered around suffering. The suffering of both the player, wading through the world of metroidvania full of dangers, and the characters of the game, who devoted their existence entirely to suffering in the name of a cruel god. Images of dark and bloody Catholicism, multiplied by inspiration from the dark works of Francisco Goya and the poetic text that local martyrs are used to - perhaps the main reason to download Blasphemous.

GreedFall

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

GreedFall is another (and finally successful) attempt by the Spiders studio to create a decent modern RPG, and if not to become on the same level with the former Bioware or CD Project, then at least to occupy its own niche. The first thing worth noting about GreedFall is the setting, which is a mix of fantasy and the Enlightenment, which the creators did not forget to enrich with several militant factions and internal political problems.

Best Fall 2019 Games on PC and Consoles

As for the rest, GreedFall is not at all the leader of the next tops of the best games of the year, but rather a worthy role-playing game, which may not go down in history, but can captivate for a couple of dozen hours.

Borderlands 3

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

We have been waiting for the continuation of the already cult series of “looter-shooters” for 7 long years. Was the game worth so many years of waiting? Definitely - yes! Despite the antics of Gearbox head Randy Pitchford, the publisher's lawsuits against streamers and a number of other scandals leading up to the game's release, Borderlands 3 managed to bring the original concept almost to perfection, becoming another legal drug for loot collectors.

And even if Borderlands 3 offers a minimum of innovation, and a couple of antagonists don't even come close to Pretty Jack, but a maximum of non-trivial tasks, humor and just mountains of various content allow Borderlands 3 to be included in the list of the best games of autumn 2019.

The Surge 2

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

The first The Surge turned out to be an extremely intricate, albeit not perfect Souls-like slasher. Urban landscapes and a system of tactical dismemberment of opponents set the game apart from its competitors, but the budget, seemingly from all the cracks, an indistinct plot and a small amount of content were the “wall” that separated a good game from an excellent one. The developers, apparently, realized this themselves, having completed the reference work on the errors of the first game in The Surge 2, significantly expanding the mechanics in depth, and the amount of content in breadth, releasing the players into a lively and well-developed post-industrial world.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One, Nintendo Switch

Continuing to talk about the best games of autumn 2019, it would be a real crime to ignore the charming puzzle platformer Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince. The new part of the series feels like an excuse for the overly "revolutionary" and unsuccessful Trine 3. Instead of a number of innovations, the developers repeat the classic program, making the most of the familiar concept of the journey of three heroes (the magician Amadeus, the thief Zoe and the knight Pontius) through a series of sophisticated physics-based tasks .

The result is, as before, a visually mesmerizing puzzle game that is perfect for evening gatherings with friends thanks to a cooperative of up to 4 people.

Disco Elysium

Platforms: PC

Disco Elysium is one of those striking and rare examples when the gaming industry is capable of surprising. The newcomers of the industry from the studio with the self-explanatory name ZA / UM, without too much fanfare and loud announcements, released their first role-playing project, which suddenly climbed into the tops of the best games of 2019, was treated kindly by both critics and players who put Disco Elysium on Steam extremely positive estimates. We also did not stand aside, mentioning Disco Elysium in second place in the top 10 brain exploding games. It seems to us that the main reason for the success of the game is that it puts the gamer in original situations and does not consider him an idiot.

Disco Elysium is not afraid to be ironic about itself, to talk about difficult and urgent things, but it never engages in moralizing or propaganda of a certain agenda, forcing the player to always make decisions himself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

Perhaps, this time we will do without regular mentions of "gray morality" in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Leaving aside all the story mode scandals and concentrating on the main component of the series, namely multiplayer, then one of the best multiplayer shooters of the year looms before us. The main compliments are the realistic weapon behavior system and updated sound, which add up to a completely new experience for the series.

Best Fall 2019 Games on PC and Consoles

The developers tried to come to imaginary realism with a number of gameplay innovations that add a little more tactics to the usual high-speed battles of Call of Duty.

The Outer Worlds

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

When Bethesda, it seemed, with the release of Fallout 76 decided to bury the cult series of RPGs, the real fathers of the original Fallout take the stage with the release of the anticipated Fallout New Vegas 2, oops, that is, The Outer Worlds! Despite the irony, The Outer Worlds feels entirely like another 3D "Foul" from Obsidian, meticulously repeating the gameplay basis of New Vegas.

And this is not a drawback, on the contrary, together with the familiar gameplay, the developers did not forget to fill The Outer Worlds with memorable characters, vivid dialogues, variable quests and surprisingly stable (for Obsidian) game work with a minimum of bugs.

Death Stranding

Platforms: PS4, PC (2020)

Death Stranding was perhaps the most mysterious project of recent years, which with each new trailer only multiplied fan theories. Additional fuel on the fire was added by Hideo Kojima's words about the new genre and rave reviews from the first players who managed to play Death Stranding. As a result, we got, though not perfect, but truly unique game.

Best Fall 2019 Games on PC & Console

Who could have thought in the year of the announcement that Death Stranding would turn out to be a courier simulator with Hollywood actors? Even the craziest fan theories did not take into account such a scenario, but what is most surprising, despite the unusual mechanics, Death Stranding is really fun to play, so it can be easily noted in the top of the best games of the fall of 2019.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the nicest gaming surprises of the year and the last thing you would expect from Electronic Arts. An adventure single-player game based on Star Wars without hints of multiplayer and microtransactions, like on the calendar and not 2019 - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is difficult to perceive other than as an image project.

To its credit, Respawn is worth noting that they fully justified their trust and, despite many fears, were able to appropriately weave the mechanics of Metroidvania and Dark Souls into the Jedi slasher, sometimes diluting the exploration of the world with spectacular moments in the Uncharted style.
