The new model of the electric drone can fly up to two hours continuously
Startup Impossible Aerospace (USA) has developed a drone that can stay aloft for up to two hours without additional battery charging. This indicator exceeds the capabilities of similar electric quadcopters by 4-5 times. Model US-1 covers about 75 kilometers during continuous flight. Most of these devices have four to six screws powered by electric motors from battery energy. Usually such drones are lightweight and simple in design, but their continuous flight time does not exceed 30 minutes. For certain purposes (for example, moving additional loads), such a period may not be enough, therefore, hybrid vehicles have been developed that can stay in the air for a longer time. In a similar way, the propellers of quadrocopters are powered by electric motors, but the latter take energy not from batteries, but from internal combustion engines. At the same time, electrical engineers are constantly working to improve their designs to take advantage of the direct electrical installation and increase the final time spent in the air. The developers of the Impossible Aerospace project were able to increase the operating time of their device in flight mode to two hours by filling most of the model's body with batteries. In addition to increasing the total operating time, the US-1 also gained more weight - about seven kilograms, and about 2/3 of it came from batteries. The lower part of the apparatus is equipped with a suspension for additional equipment and other possible weights. The development is capable of mixing the weight up to 1.3 kilograms, but this reduces the flight time - from two hours to 1 hour and 18 minutes. The drone has a maximum speed of 68 km / h. The flight time of the novelty is much higher than the capabilities of most serial quadcopters, but the US-1 does not have a record. So, in 2016, an engineer from Germany modeled his own drone that runs entirely on electricity. The improvised device lasted 2.5 hours in the air. For the first time, the US-1 model appeared in public at the InterDrone 2018 exhibition (USA, Las Vegas). The drone is equipped with a 26-inch frame, optical and thermal sensors. According to the developers, the battery of the model restores a full charge in less than an hour. The manufacturing company has already signed contracts for the supply of drones to American fire services, police units, and reconnaissance and rescue teams.
