A new, yet to be released major version of the popular Android Q system will be supplemented with built-in support for 3D facial recognition, similar to Face ID. The first announcement of the mobile platform is planned as part of the Google I / O professional event in early May this year. Owners of Apple devices are already familiar with this feature. Starting with the iPhone X, all Apple devices have received a face scanner. To build a 3D model of a face in volume, Apple technology uses various sensors to build a depth map, a TrueDepth camera, projectors and sensors. The current version of Android does not have such a tool, so individual manufacturers of mobile devices independently implement such a function in their products. Today, manufacturers of Android smartphones develop proprietary security tools on their own or use a basic method of face identification, which is not always reliable. A number of companies (LG, for example) honestly warn that face recognition is a less secure secondary unlocking method. Other proprietary technologies have their own limitations, for example, the face function on Samsung devices does not provide for fast payment for goods in the Samsung Pay service. Not all brands have the ability to implement and further support biometric recognition technologies. The face scanner, which will get the new Android operating system in hardware, could make biometric technology available to any Android device. Other Android Q innovations are expected to include desktop mode, screen recording options, full night mode, new developer tools, smart device locking, flexible privacy settings and a new permission system for apps.
