The Gate Beckons Travelers

Image Just a week ago, we wrote that Robert Kirkman and his company Skybound Entertainment will bring the Minotaur Labyrinth comic to the small screens, as Variety announced the producer's new project. It will be a television adaptation of The Gateway by Frederick Paul.

The sci-fi work, which has won three major awards in the genre, opens the Heechee cycle. According to the source, the deal allows Skybound to film not only the first book in the series, but also the next five.

The main character of the original source, Robinette Broadhead, in the hope of a better life, buys himself a one-way ticket to go to the Gate. This is the name of the space station built on the asteroid, where people once discovered many ships left by the alien civilization Heechee. Mankind has learned to control starships, but not to set coordinates. For some, travel makes a rich man, but for others it becomes a direct road to the next world. Robinette was one of the lucky ones, but can he come to terms with the fact that he was the only one of the crew to survive? ..

Until now, the producers have tried to adapt "Gate" twice. In 2015, Syfy, along with David Eick and Josh Pate, was about to launch a series based on the novel, and a year earlier Entertainment One Television and De Laurentiis Co. had plans for a film adaptation. Now it is the turn of the creators of The Walking Dead, and the task before them is not an easy one: after all, the plot of The Gate revolves around an unattractive hero, and the novel itself is a mixture of fantasy and psychology.
