”Titanic”, ”Superman” and ”Die Hard” made history

Image The Library of Congress has decided to make a pleasant surprise for James Cameron, who will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Titanic next week. The Oscar-winning drama about the crash of the famous transatlantic liner was among the twenty-five films that have earned the right to enter the National Film Register. To date, 725 films of special historical and cultural significance are under the protection of the American state.

This year, the US National Council received over 5,000 applications for the program. As in the past, the selection finalists managed to cover 95 years of cinema history. The oldest film in the 2017 sample was the short documentary by G.V. Bitzer's "New York Metro", and the youngest - the psychological thriller "Remember" by Christopher Nolan.

The cartoon Dumbo, the action movie Die Hard, the sports drama The Field of Wonders and two films by Richard Donner at once - the Superman movie comic strip and the wonderful family comedy Goonies - will take their place on the shelves of the Library of Congress. The US National Council also made a wonderful gift for the 101st anniversary of legendary actor Kirk Douglas, including the noir drama Ace in the Sleeve and the historical epic Spartacus in the Register.

The right to enter the National Film Register in 2017 was earned by:
