Goodbye Hollywood

Image The wave of Hollywood remakes and sequels may be waning: Dream Factory is in danger of losing the rights to a number of famous film series, including "Die Hard", "Predator" and "Terminator".

Last year, screenwriter Victor Miller set a legal precedent by snatching the Friday the 13th franchise out of the hands of producers. The author of the first film about Jason Voorhees found a loophole in the US legislation, which allows the rights to the plot and characters of films to be returned after 35 years from the time of the deal with the film studio.

Since the countdown starts from the moment the rights were sold, we are talking not only about films before 1984, but also about those film projects that were waiting in line on the shelf and were released in the second half of the 80s or even 90s. In Miller's footsteps, Terminator producer Gail Ann Heard, authors of The Predator, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Beetlejuice, as well as the families of writers Gary K. Wolfe and Roderick Thorpe, whose works formed the basis of the plot of the family comedy, are already ready to follow. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and the action movie "Die Hard".

There is a danger that the authors will return the rights to the franchises only to immediately resell them to other studios. Viewers can only hope that the majority of copyright holders will show consciousness and take advantage of the favorable situation to start monitoring the quality of remakes, reboots and sequels.
