Alexander Payne will host Babette's new feast

Image After the not very successful dramedy "In short," director Alexander Payne was going to make a road movie for Netflix, but the project had legal problems and the online service suspended work on it. Payne, in turn, is not wasting time and has already turned his gaze to another film - a remake of the Danish drama Babette's Feast.

The original was released in 1987 and is considered a classic of European cinema. Moreover, Babette's Feast is the first Danish film to receive an Oscar. It was about the French refugee Babette, who in the middle of the 19th century found refuge in a small religious village. After winning a huge amount in the lottery, the main character spent all her savings to arrange a chic feast for the locals.

The remake is said to take viewers to a small religious community in Minnesota, where two elderly single sisters will house a refugee, and a feast she has arranged for the heroines to reflect on their own prejudices.

The script for the new version will be written by Guy Branum ("Clumsy"), and judging by his resume, the remake will be filmed in a comedic rather than dramatic vein. But Payne himself, apparently, has a weakness for cooking: his plans still include a horror about haute cuisine.
